Wilderness Bisate Reserve has opened in Rwanda, set against the backdrop of Volcanoes National Park. It offers an ideal base from which to witness the mountain gorillas in the park.
Perched at an elevated vantage point, Bisate Reserve accommodates a maximum of just eight guests, and offers 360-degree views of all six of the Virunga’s dormant volcanoes, including Bisoke, Karisimbi and Mikeno. The lodge’s architecture and décor have been crafted by architect Nick Plewman and interior designer Caline Williams-Wynn of Artichoke Interior Design.
Each villa features private decks and fireplaces with options for private dining, outdoor hot tub soaks and customized in-room massage treatments. Additionally, guests can enjoy special screenings of wildlife and nature documentaries after a day of trekking.
Led by Executive Chef Angelus Karangwa, the culinary experience at Bisate Reserve showcases traditional East African flavors. Embracing a philosophy of simplicity and sustainability, the cuisine features local ingredients such as coconut, chili, ginger and turmeric, with a subtle nod to French culinary techniques. The reserve’s earth-to-plate approach is underscored by daily harvests from two on-site kitchen gardens and, when necessary, ingredients are sourced from local farmers.
Guest experiences include on-site activities such as exploring scenic nature trails, transformative trekking and engaging with local communities. Bisate Reserve allows guests to tailor their stay to their preferences; for those seeking absolute privacy, the lodge provides in-room dining, bespoke setups and thoughtfully designed service hatches for a seamlessly exclusive experience. Guests who wish to embrace the lodge’s vibrant atmosphere will find ample opportunities to interact with fellow visitors and the enthusiastic staff. From cocktails at the Reserve Bar to live painting sessions with local artist, Rigobert Uwiduhaye, every detail is crafted to enhance the guest experience.
