First Look: Regent Bali Canggu is IHG’s Latest Ultra-Luxury Crown Jewel

Regent’s global expansion, fueled by its parent company IHG Hotels & Resorts, means a new outpost in paradise for this storied, ultra-luxury brand.

Regent Bali Canggu is now open, giving the brand (which IHG acquired in 2018) a presence in one of the most-desired vacation destinations in the world. The resort on the shores of Canggu Beach offers a mix of suites and villas and will be home to the world’s first Regent Spa. Regent Bali Canggu is also home to five restaurants, nine swimming pools and a Regent Club for a more exclusive retreat to unwind.

The new resort is also an Indonesian homecoming for Regent, which previously had hotels in Jakarta as well as Bali prior to the brand’s new ownership.

“What a great opportunity it is for us to reintroduce Regent to Indonesia,” Manish Puri, the general manager of Regent Bali Canggu, said in a statement.

Many of the resort’s 150 suites and villas have sea or garden views and direct lagoon access. Like Regent’s new outpost in Santa Monica in the U.S., accommodations here are spacious: The entry-level Studio Suites at Regent Bali Canggu start at 818 square feet and include “oasis bathrooms” with carved teak bathtubs and rain showers.

For those wanting to splurge, the resort’s Two Bedroom Penthouse Oceanfront with Private Pool clocks in at a whopping 6,652 square feet and includes a kitchen, private terrace and an infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean.

The Wimberly, Allison, Tong & Goo-designed resort is meant to strike harmony with Bali’s geography and cultural heritage. Timber and andesite stone are reflective of Bali’s natural resources while the 14-acre resort’s low-rise development means there isn’t disruption to the area’s surrounding beauty.

Interior design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates is behind Regent Bali Canggu’s natural colors, textiles and décor. The design aesthetic is meant to be reflective of the island through batik and Balinese imagery. Landscape architect John Pettigrew is behind the resort’s lush gardens.

With respect to the dining scene at Regent Bali Canggu, I’m reminded of my southern grandmother, who would tell me of visits to her kitchen: “If you leave here hungry, it’s your own fault.” Long story short: Regent Bali Canggu has a lot to offer on the dining front.

The resort’s five dining options include Taru, Regent Bali Canggu’s signature Indonesian restaurant, and Chef Andrew Walsh’s Spanish restaurant Sazón. Other options include Beach House for oceanfront cocktails and soft-shell crab while Pool Bar is the perfect spot to unwind in a private cabana after swimming a few laps. Later this year, Walsh will open Cure, which will offer European fare with Asian influences.

“Sazón and Cure are very close to my heart and hospitality ambitions,” Walsh said in a statement.

Another splurge worth considering is access to the Regent Club, a full-service lounge for guests in select one-bedroom suites, villas and two-bedroom penthouses. The exclusive space serves breakfast, tea service and complimentary champagne during evening cocktail service. Guests of all room categories have the option of adding Regent Club access to their stay.

Later this year will also see the unveiling of the first Regent-branded spa, which will debut at Regent Bali Canggu. The wellness facility is developed in partnership with spa and wellness consultancy firm Raison d’Etre, which also counts Rocco Forte Hotels and Aman as clients. The Regent Spa will utilize Kerstin Florian beauty products for “advanced skincare sessions” and offer treatments like scrubs, wraps and massages. The spa will also include a sauna, plunge pool, Beauty Hub and Health Hub.

Guests of Regent Bali Canggu will have access to a Regent Experience Agent, a dedicated contact during a stay for personalized service and suggestions to make this getaway to Bali one to remember. As with other Regent properties, guests at the Regent Bali Canggu will have a complimentary Refreshment Gallery as part of the brand’s “With Compliments” ethos.

Regent Bali Canggu comes after a string of high-profile openings for the brand in recent years like Regent Hong Kong, Regent Santa Monica Beach, Regent Phu Quoc, Regent Shanghai on the Bund and the Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel.

Upcoming openings include Regent Jeddah and Regent Kuala Lampur—signaling the ultra-luxury momentum continues in full force at IHG.
