Sensei has announced the latest iteration of its popular hiking retreat series at Sensei Lānaʻi, a Four Seasons Resort from June 2 to 7. Sensei’s wellness programming is rooted in evidence-led research and data, helping inform and arm guests with the tools to create well-being practices that last. Beyond the physical benefits of hiking, several studies show that extended time in nature-based activities such as hiking fosters psychological well-being, with a range of benefits including increased happiness, reduced stress levels, reducing the risk of age-related cognitive disorder levels and more.
Over the course of six days and five nights, guests will explore Lānaʻi via scenic hikes and participate in Sensei’s wellness programming. New to the retreat this summer, hikers can explore an additional trail, the Pu’u Pehe (Sweetheart Rock) and participate in a morning yoga class on the Hulopoʻe Beach.
The program invites travelers of all skill levels to embark on a wellness journey, supported and led by Sensei Guides to deliver guidance in mindfulness and overall well-being, as well as local adventure experts to help traverse the trails and learn more about the cultural history of the island. The retreat includes:
- Five nights in luxury accommodations
- Two pre-arrival calls with Sensei’s pre-arrival team, as well as a Sensei Guide
- Four moderate and scenic guided hikes including Koloiki Ridge, Hiʻi Trail, Pu’u Pehe (Sweetheart Rock) Hike and Kaiholena
- Optional hiking warm-up and cool down sessions led by Sensei Fitness Practitioners
- Four 60-minute spa treatments in private 1,000-square-feet spa hales or one-on-one wellbeing sessions of choice including fitness, nutrition, yoga, meditation, sleep or mindfulness
- Three semi-private group wellness classes: gong sound bath, floating meditation and yoga at Hulopoʻe Beach
- A scenic sunset sail
- Daily breakfasts, as well as nutritional snacks for each hike and one Bento Box lunch
- Two communal lunches hosted by a Sensei Guide: “Recover and Refuel Lunch” and “The Art of Self Care Lunch”
- Opening ceremony, as well as a special “meet and greet” with mocktails prior to the ceremony
- Closing ceremony dinner at Sensei by Nobu to reflect on the group experience
- A $600 food and beverage credit to be used at Sensei by Nobu for the duration of the stay
- Round-trip, semi-private flights from Honolulu on Lānaʻi Air, roundtrip airport transfers and intra-island transportation

The first hike, Koloiki Ridge, is a 4.9-mile hike accessible from the retreat grounds and gives hikers panoramic views after navigating through a Cook pine forest. Next, guests will embark on the 5.1-mile Hiʻi Trail, which combines the challenge of gradual elevation climbs with cultural moments, including a planting ceremony of the Ti leaf, a native plant currently being restored to the area, as well as vistas of the Pālāwai Basin. Following Hi’i, journey to the iconic, must-see landmark of Lānaʻi—Pu’u Pehe, also known as Sweetheart Rock, via a short and accessible hike with breathtaking views. Starting from Hulopo’e Beach, the trail is suitable for all skill levels.
With a Sensei Guide leading the way, travelers will not only enjoy vistas of the Lānaʻi coastline, Mau, and Kahoʻolawe but also gain insights into the cultural significance of this spot. Sunrise and sunset hikes are perfect for reflection or capturing memories. The retreat will conclude with a captivating 5.3-mile journey traversing Kaiholena, ascending high above Cook pine treetops into the misty atmosphere of Kō’ele, the spiritual uplands of Lānaʻi.
In between scheduled hikes and wellness activities, guests can enjoy the various amenities available at the property including intimate group wellness classes, a lagoon-style pool, onsen garden, self-guided tours through the property’s museum-worthy art and more. Sensei can also coordinate and arrange transportation for an array of different activities around the island, such as the Lānaʻi Adventure Park, golf and tennis, snorkeling, or a day at the beach at Sensei’s nearby sister resort, the Four Seasons Resort Lānaʻi, to experience the Hulopoʻe Bay.
